Setting Up Multiple Ports on the InetPrintServer

You may use a PC as print server supporting multiple TCP ports for the socket (IP) InetPrintServer. Each port may be mapped to the same physical printer using different printer configurations, or to different printers and even other network printers.

For each port, you’ll need a separate instance of InetPrintServer running with each instance using its own unique configuration.

How to do it:

  1. Start InetPrintServer from Start | Programs | Winet | Socket Print Server.
  2. From the main menu use Stop Listening and then Start Listening to change the listening TCP port if required.
  3. Use Setup | Printer to configure the printer.
  4. Use File | SaveAs to create a new configuration. (Hint: Include the port number in the new name for easy reference.)
  5. Click the Create shortcut tick mark.
  6. The folder selected should be StartUp to enable the program to be launched at boot time.
  7. Tick the Minimize option.
  8. Click OK.
  9. For the next printer, configure the next port by continuing at step 2 above, and remember to use a new configuration name.

A more robust/secure setup:

Tick the View | Minimized to system tray option to move the program out of sight when running. This will lessen the chance of users closing the server.

Add the /a command line option to the StartUp shortcuts to ensure that the server will always be running.
Set up the built-in firewall at Setup | Firewall to prevent access from unauthorized PCs.
